The Los Angeles Dodgers swept Arizona on the first day of their road trip. Shohei Ohtani broke his silence with a multi-hit game.
The Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-4 on Tuesday (June 30) at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, to open the 2024 Major League Baseball season. Ohtani broke his no-hit drought from the previous day (Sept. 29) with a multi-hit performance.
Ohtani started in the No. 2 spot and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI, one run scored, one walk and three stolen bases. Ohtani improved his season batting average to 3-for-4 from 3-for-6.
After going 0-for-4 against the Toronto Blue Jays the day before, he quickly shook it off and had his first multi-hit game in five games since May 25 against the Washington Nationals (three).

Freeman followed with a walk and a wild pitch put runners on second and third. Smith drew a walk to load the bases for the Dodgers. Hernandez followed with an RBI double. Ohtani crossed home plate.
Ohtani led off the sixth inning with a single to shortstop. But in the eighth inning, with runners on first and second, he singled to left for a multi-hit game and RBI.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, gave up a run in the top of the first inning to Paxton.
However, he survived the inning, and in the top of the second, the Dodgers answered back.
Kike Hernandez’s RBI double and Fajes’s sacrifice fly put the Dodgers in front.

The Dodgers gave up three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but added one more in the sixth and eighth innings. Smith hit a solo home run over the center field wall in the sixth and Ohtani had an RBI single in the eighth.
