Japhael Geheiro (31, Bayern Munich) talks about the South Korean team he faced at the World Cup.
The Bayern Munich flanker sat down with OSEN at the Fairmont Hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, South Korea, to talk about his visit to South Korea and Kim Min-jae.
The Bavarians touched down at Incheon International Airport on Jan. 1, marking the first time in the club’s 124-year history that they have ever set foot on Korean soil. In their last match against Tottenham, Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory in front of a sold-out crowd.
“This is my first time in Korea,” said Keheiru before the match. I can’t imagine it yet. I’m just happy that I’m here. From the first time I arrived at the airport, the fans were very welcoming,” he said, expressing his excitement for the tour.
Geheirou spoke about what he saw and felt about Korea and Korean soccer.
Geheiro is a French-born Portuguese international who has been given regular playing time at left fullback, sometimes at wingback, sometimes as a winger, and sometimes in central midfield. As he progressed, he earned a call-up to the Portugal national team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
“It’s my first time in Korea. I can’t imagine it yet. I’m just happy to be here. From the first time I arrived at the airport, the fans were so welcoming,” he said.
Minjae arrived in South Korea a few days ahead of his trip to Bayern and personally greeted his teammates at the airport. Geheiru said, “Minjae came to greet us. I was very grateful. She arrived in Korea a few days ahead of us. We are looking forward to learning more about Korean culture and other things from her.”
Geheiro last faced South Korea at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with Portugal, where he did not play but watched from the bench.
