The Korean women’s national tennis team will participate in the 1st group match in the Asia-Oceania region of the Billy Jean King Cup.
The Korean women’s tennis team, led by coach Kim Jeong-bae, will challenge for a ticket to the playoffs at the 2024 Billy Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania Region 1 Group Tournament held in Changsha, Hunan Province, China from the 9th to the 13th.
In this competition, six teams, including Korea, the host country China, Taiwan, India, New Zealand, and Pacific Oceania, will participate and the rankings will be determined by the full league.
The top two countries advance to the playoffs, and the bottom two teams are relegated to regional group 2.
The Billy Jean King Cup is divided into the Finals, which is the world round of 16, the Qualifiers, which are the stages immediately before that, the Playoffs, which determine the teams that will advance to the Finals, and the 1st and 2nd groups by region.
Korea advanced to the playoffs in second place after Japan in Group 1 of the Asia-Oceania region in April last year, but lost 0-4 in the playoffs to Brazil in November and fell back to Group 1 in the region.
Last year was the first time in 25 years that Korean women’s tennis passed the regional preliminary round of this tournament since 1998, when the tournament was called the Fed Cup.
In this year’s competition, the national team consisted of ace Jang Soo-jeong (241st place, Daegu City Hall), Park So-hyun (301st place), Koo Yeon-woo (468th place, Seongnam City Hall), and Kim Da-bin (682nd place, Gangwon Provincial Office).
China, which has four players in the top 60 in the world rankings, including world number 7 Chung Chin-won, is considered the strongest, and Korea, India, Taiwan, and New Zealand are expected to compete for second place. 스포츠토토
