DOOSAN COACH LEE SEUNG-YEUP “I ENJOYED IT BECAUSEOF THE PLAYERS, BUT NEXT YEAR WE WILL GO HIGHER”

Lee Seung-yeop (47) made his “postseason (PS) debut” in his first year as head coach of the Doosan Bears. However, they ended the 2023 season without recording their first PS win. Doosan lost 9-14 to the NC Dinos in the KBO Wild Card Game at Changwon NC Park in Gyeongnam, South Korea, on April 19.Doosan, which finished the regular season in fifth place and entered the wild-card game with one loss, was unable to hold on to the game until the second inning and exited the field this fall.
“This is how the season ended,” said Lee Seung-yeop, who came to the press conference for the ‘postgame interview. I took over in October last year and set the primary goal of advancing to the PS. We achieved the first goal, but it’s very unfortunate that fall baseball ended after just one game.”

Looking back at the game, there are many regrettable moments .Doosan scored three runs in the first inning, but couldn’t extend the lead and lost the lead when starter Kwak Bin collapsed in the home run column. Coach Lee Seung-yeop said, “Cho’s strong hit (in the first inning) was caught well by NC shortstop Kim Joo-won, so we couldn’t score any runs. “Kwak Bin pitched well, but the game changed in the fourth inning when he was hit by back-to-back home runs, including the game-winning home run,” Lee recalled, adding, “We did well again, but we lacked depth.

Looking a little further back in time, the team was disappointed to lose the battle for third place at the end of the regular season, and the lack of firepower led to a heavy bullpen load. “We had a weakness in the batting order (ranking eighth in runs scored in the regular season),” Lee said. As the batting numbers dropped, the pitchers also had a 슬롯게이밍 tough season,” he recalled.
