The U.S. Men’s National Team defeated Bolivia in its first group game of the 2024 South American Soccer Championship (Copa America), led by a multi-point performance from “Captain” Christian Pulisic (AC Milan).

The U.S. won 2-0 in the first leg of their Group C match against Bolivia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday (Sept. 24).

With the win, the U.S. (3 points, Goals +2) is tied for second place in Group C with Uruguay (3 points, Goals +2), which defeated Panama 3-1, but trails on goal difference.

The U.S. added an insurance goal in the 44th minute of the first half.

Pulisic won the ball in the middle of the field and advanced before crossing the ball to Pauline Balogun (AS Monaco) near the penalty spot, who finished with a left-footed shot.

Pulisic, who assisted on Balogun’s goal, finished with a goal and an assist in the first half.

The U.S. kept up the offense in the second half, but were unable to add to their two-goal lead.

In the first Group C matchup between Uruguay and Panama at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, Uruguay won 3-1.

Uruguay, who are tied with Argentina (15) for the most Copa America titles in history, jumped out to an early lead when Maximiliano Araujo (Toluca) scored in the 16th minute.

Leading 1-0 at halftime, Uruguay added a second goal from Darwin Núñez (Liverpool) in the 40th minute before Matias Viña (Flamengo) struck in second-half stoppage time to seal the victory.
